a lot of programs/unixes work much better if they can resolve right away -- solaris installs for example, go much smoother (and since a solaris manual install is like 40 miles of bad road, you want as smooth as possible....) if they can resolve the hostname (or if they can get it via DHCP).

I hate to keep picking on you, Morten, but what is the purpose of your adding "hostname localhost" to the instructions for installing the mysql port? --Jimbo 02:47, 2 Sep 2005 (EDT)



It is a well known trick to ensure good build of MySQL, otherwise you should mention that it is important to have good working DNS settings.
