I do some unix, linux and BSD stuff for a university in South Florida. My reasons for using FreeBSD are varied, but it boils down to

  1. It's Free
  2. It's Stable but not stagnant -- it's got modern programs available for it and is updated often.
  3. It Runs on various architectures
  4. It's Customizable
  5. Security

My machine names are abulafia, dagon, kadath, cthulhu, samizdata and deus, so when you see them referenced you can be sure that Jimbo or Pete's filthy hands haven't written what you're reading.

... except that when Dave starts an article and I finish it, I keep using his machine's name for the rest of the examples. Nothing in life is certain. --Jimbo 00:13, 26 Aug 2004 (GMT)
